Thought 18 - Cat Boxes

Point one today (from the wife):
Does it seem odd that we wrap up cat and dog, poo and pee into plastic bag to be effectively preserved for millions of years. Just think of what future archeologist will think.

I guess this does stem from the fact that cats and dogs, and well just about every other animal on the planet as been peeing and pooping, when ever and where ever they please. Granted we'd have a bit of a smell problem if everyone went where ever, but we developed sanitation for a reason! Further most animals poo is beneficial to plants as fertilizer. Well, not really dog and cat poo, but why not just flush this stuff? or compost it in a 'hot' compost pile.

Well it turns out we're not that bad, they do make flushable/compostable kitty litter. Oddly they charge more for them despite using things like ground corn cobs, pine pellet, wheat staff, i.e. other industry waste products, so why more expensive? or better if you have a yard why not grow corn, wheat, and a pine tree and have both food on your table and biodegrable cat litter for the compost pile? Just wondering if we are forgetting simple things the more complex the world tries to get?

Point Two:

Anyway the whole pee/poo thing came from cleaning the cat box, and was thinking again using plastic to line the boxes and then just throwing that away. Again why? I find that the plastic is there to prevent the pee of sticking to the sides of litter box. We do not use the plastic cat box liners (mostly seen as an expensive 'colored' trash bag). However the pee clumps stick to the side making it necessary to scrape the sides and bottom to get all of clumps. Wait, why am I scraping this? Did not modern science provide as teflon? Why does there not exist a cat box with a teflon coating and eliminate the need for anyone anywhere to use the plastic cat box bags. Emptying the cat box would be a breeze, everything would just slide right out. And it's not like your going to put it in the oven... are you!?

Oh well, time to clean the cat box.

Hans, You need to invent a dog poop scooping robot like roomba maybe call it pooba.... Set it down and it goes around your yard picking up the poops for you and is solar powered so it recharges it's self in the sunlight too.

I like this idea. I wonder if you could use methane to power the robot. Then simply "hunts" for it's own fuel source, with backup from solar power.

Oh man! You better get working on that and I want to be your first customer!

Thought 70: Determinism.

Hold on your butts, this one is a wild ride, and specifically from my point of view. It's more a journey from when I was about 6, until today, and a little bit beyond that, about a week under normal conditions, but that last part flucuates quite a bit. I cannot explain all of it, but I can describe my experiences, and you don't have to believe them, they are merely my observations. I feel I have to start with sleep and dreaming, since so much of the experience is rooted inside dreams and more specfically dejavu. We have to suspend the dejavu for a moment to get through this, but trust me, we'll get back there, it's too important to leave out. I am a lucid dreamer, in full color, full audio, lots of detail, but not sharp details. Note that last one, it's important as well. I have been my whole life or as far back as I can remember, dreamed vividly of all my childhood nightmares and having the ability to conjure heroes to fight them. This battle somewhere in the...

Thought 54: The House of Cloud PI

The concept of a smart house with a computer that is everywhere is a concept that is today possible with things like alexa and all sorts of technologies. But when the internet is down much of this breaks down to a more simplier format. What if it were possible to combine the cluster performance of the cloud with a set of smart home controllers. That is with the always on of many of the smart plugs and bulbs can we boost each's CPU power and combine that power into a cluster? The concept being take a quad core arm, but now every bulb, outlet, switch, appliance, and smart camera contains one. First would the combined house power be useful? or efficient? Efficent would be a draw of about 2 Watts per device, which be up from the near 0 most of the zigbee and zwave device produce now when they are in low power mode. Does that mean that let's assume you have 40 of these (40 from how many devices I had when I last constructed a smart home, but really we'd likely be higher o...

Thought 16 - Kid Power

In response "Thought 14 - Perpetual Cat" sugarbumkin said, "The same theory could be applied to balloons tied to kindergarteners at recess. I like it." Well this got me thinking... Clothes with that are laced with MEMS generators. A MEMS generator is a solid state electronic circuit that generates low level of current though passive motion of the environment. Things like temperature change, acceleration, and even Brownian motion are converted to power using a MEMS generator. So, now we have attached them to small free moving bipeds of pure energy. How do we get the energy back. I figure that we isolate the playground into a large battery configuration where the children are running around on a conductive plate that makes contact with the heels of their shoes. They will run around with a super capacitor in addition to the MEMS, when their feet touch the ground the super-cap is discharged into the conductive plate underneath them. I do not think that the childr...
